Merit Health Natchez Honors Medical Staff on Doctors’ Day
3/26/2026
NATCHEZ, Miss. –March 27, 2026 – In recognition of National Doctors’ Day, celebrated each year on March 30, Merit Health Natchez made a charitable contribution to the Natchez Children’s Services Children’s Advocacy Center in honor of its medical staff. The day is set aside to recognize physicians for their skills, sacrifice and service to the community.
“We are grateful to the doctors on our medical staff for the steadfast care provided to the thousands of patients we treat each year throughout our community,” said Kevin Samrow, CEO of Merit Health Natchez. “Today, we recognize the skill, compassion, and unwavering dedication of our physicians. Behind every patient story is a physician who showed up, cared deeply, and made a difference,” concluded Samrow.
In lieu of gifts for this occasion, the Children’s Advocacy Center was chosen as the recipient of this year’s donation. As the only Children’s Advocacy Center serving a five county region, their team provides forensic interviews, family advocacy, and access to critical support services to protect Mississippi’s most vulnerable. Their mission is to protect children and help them find hope and healing.
“Generous donations such as this allow us to continue providing vital services to the children in our communities, said Catherine McPhate, Executive Director of Natchez Children’s Services. “This donation in honor of the medical staff at Merit Health Natchez is meaningful to our agency and the continued force to fight against child abuse in Mississippi,” concluded McPhate.
National Doctors’ Day is a day on which the service of physicians to the nation is recognized annually. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, and the date chosen was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery. On March 30, 1842, in Jefferson, Georgia, Dr. Crawford Long used ether to anesthetize a patient and painlessly excised a tumor from the patient’s neck.
